Apps That Make Your Moving Easier

by Kyung Kim 10/24/2019

Everyone dreads moving day (if you don't, you are a rare breed). Remember how tired you got just thinking about it - The hassles of house hunting, the sorting, the packing, the heavy lifting, the question of which is worse, the "moving out" or the "moving in"?

Thankfully, there are now numerous apps that help when it comes to moving in or out, whether locally or across the country. It is essential for you to know which apps are your best friends when you are relocating. In most cases, they will save you plenty of time and money.

Zillow

Zillow comes up as number 1 in most moving apps rating lists and for a good reason too. This trade center of real estate has been described as the most credible site for house hunting. If you are indecisive, this is the perfect place to start. A great feature is that it comes with pictures of the external and internal layout along with video walk-throughs so you can see what you are getting without being there physically. It also offers information on the neighborhood.

Sortly

It is annoying when you have to rummage through neatly packed boxes in search of just one little thing or when your movers unload the kitchen box in the bedroom. Apart from packing neat boxes, it is even better to monitor what is in what box and where they need to be unloaded. The cool thing about Sortly is its visual inventory list.

Take pictures of items as you pack, adding them to the inventory, then print out QR codes for each box. When you need to unpack in your new place, just scan the codes, and you get a full view of the contents of each box — no more rummaging.

Moved

This app is where the muscle comes in. Moved is better compared to Dolly because dolly is said to be more expensive and is best used when you need a little help with a small move. Moved asks "where?" and "when?" and then links you up with someone whom you can collaborate with to plan the process and book moving companies.

Magicplan

After the stressful day (which could have been worse without these apps), you only want everything in its right place. No app is going to unpack your clothes and arrange them in your wardrobe, but you do get something close with this app. Magicplan helps you create a plan for how you want to organize your new place. It's like the blueprints of your future decor. It can measure distances to create a precise floor plan virtually so that you know where everything goes.

Moving doesn't have to be a scary venture. Once you have put together your plan, you can pack your boxes based on that and use sticky notes to direct the movers where to set the boxes. Contact a reliable moving company also to make sure your move is as smooth as possible.

Kyung Kim

Hi, I'm Kyung Kim. I immigrated from South Korea to the United States in 1968 when I was 7 years old. I have seen my mom struggle with the English language and work hard to raise her four kids by herself. Still to this day, I don't know how she pulled it off, but she bought her first home in 1979 for $70,000 and because of that decision, she was able to live without worrying about her financial future. I want that for everyone, to feel the pride of home ownership and to build their financial wealth using real estate as part of their financial portfolio. I feel so blessed to play a small role in helping others reach this goal.

I live in Beaverton with my husband, Richard. My mom, who lived with us for several years, passed away in our home in February 2022. Her first home purchase in 1979 made it possible for her to live to the very end, without worrying about her finances. As of August 2022 with a little downpayment assistance, our four children own their own homes. Being in real estate, I quickly realized that if they didn't buy now, they may be priced out of the market in the future. Whether that would have been the case, we will never know, but what we do know is that they are all realizing some good, healthy appreciation in their home values.

As passionate as I am about people owning their homes, I'm also passionate about giving back to our community. I support Compassion First, a non-profit organization that provides aftercare for sex trafficked girls in Indonesia. My husband and I also feel called to financially support social injustice organizations.

I'd love to assist you. Whether you're in the research phase at the beginning of your real estate search or you know exactly what you're looking for, you'll benefit from having a real estate professional by your side. I'd be honored to put my real estate experience to work for you.
