Try These DIY Wall Art Ideas to Decorate Your Home

by Kyung Kim 07/28/2022

Wall art helps to fill the space on any wall regardless of its size or shape. While it's easy to head to a big box store that sells home decor and other household items in order to find wall art to hang, it's far more interesting to create your wall art yourself.

These are DIY wall art ideas that are quick, simple and affordable:

Photographs on Canvas

If you like photography, then one of the best ways to display the images that you capture is on canvas. You can easily transform any room into your own personal studio by ordering your favorite photographs to be printed on canvas and hanging those canvases up throughout the room.

Banners and Garlands

Banners and strings of garland make wonderful additions to any room decor. You can string a seasonal banner along your fireplace or hang garland above a window as an accent. When you design your own banners and garland using the supplies that you select yourself, you can rest easy knowing that it will perfectly match the rest of your room.

Pallet Paintings

One of the best ways to recycle old wooden pallets is to create a painting out of them. Pallet paintings have become increasingly popular in recent years and there are endless options for your next DIY creation. Many people enjoy painting their favorite quotes or verses onto pallets.

Floral Monogram

You can cut the shape of any letter onto a piece of sturdy cardboard or wood and then use silk flowers to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind design on top. Once you have filled every inch of available space with flowers, you can hang this creation on your wall. This is the perfect piece of wall art for a bedroom, bathroom or nursery.

Wooden Shadowbox

Shadowboxes are the perfect way to preserve your memories and display them for all who enter your home. Many people fill shadowboxes with memorable trinkets or photos to commemorate trips or experiences.

Yarn Art

Yarn art is the latest craft craze to hit the scene and fortunately, it's also one of the simplest and least expensive DIY wall art projects to complete. Using an old piece of wood, nails and yarn, you can weave nearly any type of design before you put it on display in your home.

Canvas Mounted Floral Paintings

Another simple DIY wall art project is canvas mounted floral paintings. For this project, all you need to do is take dried stems or silk flowers and pin them to blank canvases. Many people paint the names of the flowers onto the canvas before they hang their latest piece on the wall.

When you create your own wall art, you can design the perfect accent piece for your room. Not only will you have a custom piece that no one else has in their home but you also will enjoy the process of making it yourself.

Kyung Kim

Hi, I'm Kyung Kim. I immigrated from South Korea to the United States in 1968 when I was 7 years old. I have seen my mom struggle with the English language and work hard to raise her four kids by herself. Still to this day, I don't know how she pulled it off, but she bought her first home in 1979 for $70,000 and because of that decision, she was able to live without worrying about her financial future. I want that for everyone, to feel the pride of home ownership and to build their financial wealth using real estate as part of their financial portfolio. I feel so blessed to play a small role in helping others reach this goal.

I live in Beaverton with my husband, Richard. My mom, who lived with us for several years, passed away in our home in February 2022. Her first home purchase in 1979 made it possible for her to live to the very end, without worrying about her finances. As of August 2022 with a little downpayment assistance, our four children own their own homes. Being in real estate, I quickly realized that if they didn't buy now, they may be priced out of the market in the future. Whether that would have been the case, we will never know, but what we do know is that they are all realizing some good, healthy appreciation in their home values.

As passionate as I am about people owning their homes, I'm also passionate about giving back to our community. I support Compassion First, a non-profit organization that provides aftercare for sex trafficked girls in Indonesia. My husband and I also feel called to financially support social injustice organizations.

I'd love to assist you. Whether you're in the research phase at the beginning of your real estate search or you know exactly what you're looking for, you'll benefit from having a real estate professional by your side. I'd be honored to put my real estate experience to work for you.
